Wood & Wood

With over 40 years experience in signmaking, and having worked with some of the
biggest names in retail amp; transport, Wood & Wood have tackled a diverse
spectrum of projects.

Giving Direction

The client approached Planet wanting a means, both online and offline, to showcase their growing portfolio of work. It was important to Wood & Wood, like their work ethos and passion for design, that their branding radiated personality. Using a combination of specialist paper and print, a well executed concept, and state of the art Flash development, Planet worked to the clients brief. The result was a strong supportive design that worked well with the clients current brand.

Literature

The client wished to have two forms of printed literature, the first was an engaging eight page brochure showcasing a selection of work that could be used as a direct mail campaign. The second was an A4 brochure that contained updatable case studies that the client had the means to modify themselves.

For the eight page brochure, the design team created a unique grid with concertina fold. The result was simple yet effective piece of print that contained a large amount of information that was both organised and directed in a way that would not overwhelm the reader.

The A4 brochure insert grid was modeled on the eight page brochure, keeping consistency across the literature portfolio. The cover was designed using a specialist black paper. Using bolt fasteners as a binding method, the brochure was bound and then finished using an emboss and foil blocking technique for the logo on the cover. The final result was sophisticated yet approachable design.

Website

Planet worked with Wood & Wood to create a contemporary user friendly Flash website to showcase their portfolio of work. It was important to the client that the site was unique, showing their personality whilst remaining professional and user friendly. The outcome was a short friendly introductory animation, utlising a street seen with signage running whilst loading the navigation.

To avoid the difficulty of navigating backwards through a Flash site, the development team decided it would be best to keep the full navigation available at all points throughout the site, opening new pages like dialogue boxes that can be closed easily.
